Graduating in Media & Design in 2000, company director Jonnie Halstead has since built a career out of catering to New Zealand audiences. He started out in night clubs, apexed as the co-founder of the award-winning Club 'Sandwiches'. In 2006 he started Picnic Events and quickly grew to be a key part of some of this countries most renowned festivals. He has an unrivalled reputation for excellence in managing the associated risks and responsibilities at large-scale events. His broad-spectrum of expertise ranges from planning, licensing, sponsorship, media & delivery at the venue. If you have an idea, Jonnie and his team can see it through to a successful reality.


Jules Harvey

Coordinator of Everything

Jules Harvey comes from an internationally reknowned career in consulting to world-leading bars and luxury resorts. In 2009 she joined Picnic and is now Jonnie's right hand across all aspects of the companies operation. From anchoring the office, staff recruitment, cash management to communications at event. A trusted & key part of what makes us so effective for our clients.



Logistics Ninja

International man of mystery and all-round problem solver. No one quite knows how he does it but several of our clients are convinced we have triplet Damo's onsite. Before you even realise there is a problem Damo will be on the spot with the solution. A true lover of the outdoors, he spends a great deal of his time outside of events involved in sports and eco expos.


Tony Castro

Hospo Guru

The true Scotsman (with a Spanish name?) and face of some of Wellington's finest bar restaurants (The Matterhorn & Ancestral), Tony Castro has converted his skills from managing top 150 seater eateries to overseeing the bar & host responsibility of 15,000 person licensed festivals. The alcohol management risks at large events are immense, so Tony as a key component to the success of Picnic Events.

As a bonus Tony brings along his gorgeous and talented wife Katie (Kershaw) Castro who steps in as a trusted coordinator.

Picnic Parties Ltd - 'Picnic Events' has been operating as an Event Management company since 2006 first launching under the Sandwiches nightclub brand to operate the SummerSet Festival at the Basin Reserve, Cricket stadium in Wellington.

In 2007 we were approached by X*Air Ltd to contract for their new venture 'Homegrown' - Picnic has operated the bars and sponsor / customer experiences at the Kiwi music festival since it's inception. In 2009 the Coromandel Gold new years eve camping-festival was created by Homegrown Events in partnership with Much More Music and Picnic was contracted for licensing, hospitality & arena management.

In the past 4+ years Picnic has managed events across all districts of New Zealand from the Rugby World Cup FanZone Auckland Waterfront, to the NZ Cup & Show Week in Christchurch, University of Canterbury Students Association events, to Winery Tours in the Hawkes Bay and WinterFest / Burton NZ Snowboard Champs in Queenstown. In more recent years Stadium Concerts have become a key focus, as have sustainable Eco Festivals.

Picnic Events has a database of over 500 key event personnel and hospitality staff throughout the country. With these guys at the frontline of our events we can truly lift far more than our own weight!
